Coexist documents the cohabitation between animals and humans at the Gaia Sanctuary Foundation, located in the mountains of Camprodon, Girona. Gaia is a vegan organisation dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating farm animals that have been victims of farming abuse, exploitation, mistreatment, or abandonment. When it was founded, there were only two sanctuaries in Spain, none for farm animals. Coque, co-founder of the sanctuary, explains, “They are the animals that no one helps. They are seen as consumer products. The last of the last.”

Coexist has won the XIV Carles Rahola Award and the XXI Young Photographer of Catalonia Award.
